David Briand

David Briand is the Oral History Project Manager at the International Center for Ethics, Justice, and Public Life at Brandeis University. He was previously a Project Coordinator at the Columbia Center for Oral History and was the lead researcher and coordinator of CCOH's Rule of Law Oral History Project.

Briand holds a BA in History from Boston College and an MA in American Studies from Columbia University, where his research concerned the roots and consequences of the extension of state power in 20th century United States, most notably in the dramatic rise in mass incarceration of people of color during the “War on Drugs” and in the U.S. government’s foreign and domestic policies of detainment during the “War on Terror.” Prior to joining CCOH, he was the program director for WZBC 90.3FM in Newton, Massachusetts.
