Arab-Jewish Dialogue Group screens "Promises"
On November 17, 2002, the Arab-Jewish Dialogue group screened the film "Promises" to an audience of over 150 people in Pollack Auditorium. The film chronicles the lives and opinions of seven Jewish and Arab children in and around Jerusalem between 1997 and 2000. Members of the dialogue group spoke before the event about the promises and challenges of facilitated dialogue, both for the Brandeis campus and the wider world. Guest speaker Faraj Faraj, one of the young people featured in the film, spoke about the ways that participating in the film opened his mind to the possibilities of conversation rather than confrontation as a means of addressing the conflict in the Middle East. The event was co-sponsored by the Arab-Jewish Dialogue Group, the India-Pakistan Dialogue Group, the Peace and Conflict Studies Program, and the Slifka Program in Intercommunal Coexistence.
