Jordan's Prince Calls for Coexistence at 2006 Commencement

On May 21, 2006, Prince El Hassan bin Talal of Jordan spoke at the University's 55th commencement ceremony, urging students to change the world through "smart power: the ability to get what you want through attraction rather than coercion."

"I believe that wisdom will prevail over prejudice, science over ignorance, freedom over oppression, and ecological wisdom over shortsighted waste," said bin Talal. "There are no problems that the human brain cannot solve, and there is always time."

In addition to delivering the keynote address, bin Talal was one of six recipients of honorary degrees given out at the ceremony.
