Center Staff Member Participates in Two International Peace Conferences

Mari Fitzduff, director of the Master of Arts in Coexistence and Conflict program in the Slifka Program on Intercommunal Coexistence, participated in two international conferences in the month of November designed to promote peace.

Fitzduff was one of the keynote speakers at the International Conference on Education for Peace and Democracy, held November 19-23 in Antalya, Turkey. The conference, organized by the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information, brought together 270 Israelis, Palestinians and international participants from some 20 countries. The conference was organized by IPCRI – the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information. During the four days of the conference some 150 workshops, lectures, presentations and films were held.

Fitzduff then traveled to Belfast, Ireland, for a November 23 conference titled "Are We Fit for the Future?" organized by the Community Relations Council of Northern Ireland. Fitzduff gave the keynote address of the day, "What can we learn from other countries about peacebuilding?"

Earlier in the month, Fiztduff was also involved in dialogue & mediation training for the U.N. Department of Political Affairs. The training was organized by the Folke Bernadotte Academy, a Swedish government agency dedicated to improving the quality and effectiveness of international conflict and crisis management, with a particular focus on peace operations.
