Learning by Doing

Project Overview

In January 2005 Brandeis launched Learning by Doing: Deepening Liberal Arts Education through Experiential Learning, a two and a half year project funded by the Davis Educational Foundation.  The project builds on Brandeis’ mission of “a broad and critical education in enriching the lives of students and preparing them for full participation in a changing society, capable of promoting their own welfare, yet remaining deeply concerned about the welfare of others” by creating more opportunities for students to engage in high-quality experiential learning.  The project not only attends to the elements necessary for high quality experiential learning (EL)– experience, reflection, analysis and assessment – but also the infrastructure necessary to sustain this work.  The initiative is coordinated by a faculty committee chaired by Adam Jaffe, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.
