Profile
Dr. Bhalotra is an Associate Professor at the Heller School, Brandeis University. She received her medical degree from Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi University, New Delhi, India, and is certified by the United States Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates. She also holds a Master's degree in Health Administration from Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts. Dr. Bhalotra was a Pew Health Policy Fellow at the Institute for Health Policy, Brandeis University, and received her doctorate in Social Welfare Policy (Health) at the Heller School, Brandeis University.
Dr. Bhalotra is an experienced health services researcher, policy analyst and educator. Before coming to Brandeis University, she worked extensively with integrated clinical and financial information systems. Using both quantitative and qualitative methods, her research projects have included working with large multi-specialty groups, hospitals, and managed care organizations on the financing and delivery of health care, service delivery and financing issues of end-stage renal disease, evaluation of programs for cardiovascular disease management, racial/ethnic disparities in health, and the organizational and provider factors influencing the adoption of new technology. Currently, her focus is on evaluating the organizational and systemic factors affecting the implementation of lifestyle modification programs, using multi-method case study, interview, and survey methodology, as well as analyzing the organizational and physician factors that affect the dissemination of new addictions treatments in substance abuse.
Dr. Bhalotra's educational activities include Committee work on PhD dissertations, and advising students in all four of Heller's graduate programs, as also Brandeis' undergraduates who have declared a major in Health: Science, Society, and Policy. Among the management and policy classes that she teaches and has taught are Managed Care, Health Services and Policy (U.S.); Evaluation, World Health, Quality Management in Health Care Organizations, Ambulatory Care Management, Management of Health Care Organizations, the MBA Cornerstone Course on Social Justice and Management, the MBA Capstone Course in Social Policy and Management, and the MS Capstone Course in International Health Policy and Management. She also teaches Global Health to undergraduates. She is Director for the Brandeis Health Leaders' Program for physicians, sponsored by the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Bhalotra has lived in the United States since 1975, and is a naturalized citizen.
