Connections To Business
IBS is intimately connected to the world of business through its teaching, faculty, events, and placement network. Business leaders frequently visit the School to talk with students or to teach courses, and provide students with direct opportunities to learn about state-of-the-art business practice. Companies interested in forging new links are invited to contact the Dean or the Office of Career Services.
Business in the Classroom
In selecting our faculty, we have sought to balance academics and practice: 20 of our professors - usually appointed as Adjunct Professors or Professors of the Practice - are highly successful business professionals who bring the latest practical insights into the classroom.
Classes often use current business problems as their subject matter. One of our MBA seminars, for example, conducts a year-long, detailed analysis of a single important business decision-recently the AOL-Time Warner merger, and the business development strategies of Tweeter, Etc. Students consult experts and participants in those decisions, and present their final conclusions to the company's senior managers. Through such "live" case studies, they track issues as they develop over time, and benefit from learning how to apply knowledge to the latest developments of the global economy.
Entrepreneurship
There is also an exciting entrepreneurial side to IBS's curriculum. The backbone of this activity consists of three courses and a University-wide business plan competition. There is also an Entrepreneurs' Club, an Entrepreneurs Forum that brings dozens of entrepreneurs to the campus, and an annual dinner that brings students and alumni together. Through these activities, students have opportunities to meet and work with entrepreneurs in the course of their studies.
CEO Forum
IBS's flagship CEO forum brings to the School influential business leaders from all sectors of the economy. In this program, students have an opportunity to hear personal and perceptive views, and to ask questions of the leaders of some of the world's most successful corporations. Visitors also often participate in classes, allowing students to interact directly with them in the School's intimate setting.
Research Institutes
Research provides still another link to the business world. The newly founded Rosenberg Institute of Global Finance is designed to conduct research on real world issues and to connect its findings to business and policy practice. A major Institute goal is to bridge the gap between academic research and the insights of business and policy leaders.
Board of Overseers
IBS directions and strategies are shaped by an influential Board of Overseers, from a wide range of industries and professions. All are eminent in their field and all are committed to ensuring that the School has access to the best possible advice as it expands in size and scope.
Alumni
Alumni are rapidly advancing to leadership positions in many companies. IBS alumni regularly visit the School to offer advice to current students on their career paths. Others give their time to IBS in various ways, including serving on our Board of Overseers.
Careers
Ultimately the strongest connections to business are through our network of employer contacts. IBS has an enviable record of placing its graduates with leading companies and institutions across the globe. A number of employers visit the School each year to identify suitable graduates to fill positions in their companies. Our Office of Career Services maintains a regular dialogue with potential employers and is ready to welcome them to the campus.
