Standardized Tests
Is the GRE or GMAT required?
While we don't require a specific score, standardized test results are required for admission. The middle 80 percent of GMAT and GRE scores (average of three sections) are in the 510-660 range, with an average undergraduate GPA of 3.3. The Admissions committee normally reviews only applications considered complete, which includes results from the GRE or GMAT.

Is the TOEFL required?
If you are an international applicant, your application must include an official score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS), unless your native language is English or you completed four years of study at an undergraduate institution (or two year at a graduate institution) in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand. A TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based exam, 250 on the computer-based exam, 90 on IBT is usually required, IELTS a score of 7.0 is required. An official English translation of academic documents is also required.

Experience
Am I required to have work experience?
Work experience is valued highly in our admissions decisions, however it is not required for the MA program.
Must I have majored in economics to apply for the MA program?
No. However, there are specific undergraduate business courses required.
Do I need a strong background in mathematics?
We strongly recommend at least one prior course in statistics for all master's programs.
Other Requirements
Do I have to visit Brandeis IBS in advance?
No, but we would be delighted to have you
visit Brandeis . Please contact us in advance to make an appointment (you may use our
online campus tour form to choose a visit option and to sign up). We offer opportunities for you to sit in on a class and meet with admission representatives, professors and students. We also organize several information sessions at Brandeis IBS during the year. If you cannot make it to campus, we encourage you to consider submitting a video interview; please contact the Admissions Office to learn more about this option.
Can I meet your representatives in other places?
Yes, our admissions staff travels to many cities in the U.S. and abroad. Our admissions office can also arrange for informational interviews with alumni and other representatives.
