Rachel Rothfarb
MBA, '06

Originally from Sacramento, California, Rachel is currently working as an Executive Compensation Analyst for Pearl Meyer & Partners, a premier compensation consultancy. Rachel is responsible for conducting detailed analyses of executive and Board of Director compensation practices in order to evaluate the appropriateness and competitiveness of their remuneration policy.  She must assess company performance using significant financial metrics to formulate a tailored rewards strategy and assists in the design of short-term and long-term incentive plans to align incumbents' performance with the company's business strategy. Rachel finds that many of her IBS classes helped her in her current position.

She comments: "Financial statement analysis as well as company strategy assessment have been helpful tools at work. Additionally, project and time management skills were something I learned and built on at IBS, both of which are critical at Pearl Meyer. The best thing about IBS is the opportunity to have classes with people from all over the world, so that you learn finance and business not only from the professors and text books, but also from foreign students' real life experiences. The student community created by this unique gathering of people is one-of-a-kind, and I am so thankful to have had such a positive and enriching graduate school experience."

Candace Bazley
MBA, '06

Candace Bazley is working at Liberty Mutual, a leading global insurer, in New Jersey as an Account Representative. Like many IBS students, Candice supplemented her IBS education with a semester abroad. Candice studied at ESSEC (Ecole Superieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales), one of the top universitites in France.

Candice comments: "You had to choose three countries in which you would like to study and submit them to the graduate office. chose France, Spain, and Brazil. The staff at Brandeis took care of the rest of the application process. Brandeis has already established relationships with these schools, so it's a matter of match and interest. My experience abroad immersed me in another culture and allowed me to explore a different view on business ideas. The International Luxury Distribution course allowed me to study and learn about brands in the fashion industry such as LVMH, Chanel, and Gucci. I would definitely recommend studying abroad to other MBA students because it is an enriching experience that allows you to learn from a different viewpoint."

Dato Sandroshvili
MBA, '01

Dato Sandroshvili is Vice President at Citigroup Global Market's Investment Banking Division in London. He focuses on providing strategic advisory, M&A and capital raising services to Energy companies in Europe, Middle East, Asia, Japan and Former Soviet Union. Dato has been at Citigroup London since his graduation in 2001 and has also spent several months in the company's New York offices on an extended rotation.

Dato comments: "IBS has built a very balanced curriculum and it has offered me all the tools that I needed for my job. Since I work in the financial industry, courses in Accounting and Finance have benefited me directly. However, as an Investment Banker, I have to focus on companies' strategy, as well as softer, 'people' issues, both of which were covered in the curriculum. In addition, with the flexibility of cross-registering, I took a special negotiations class at Babson, which was also extremely useful. Most career tracks today require knowledge in many areas, and Brandeis has given me a platform in all the important areas that I need to build on in order to grow. Most importantly, the school has given me global network of alumni that I can rely on and which I have used number of times."

Amy Kessler
MA, '90

Amy is Managing Director of Public Finance at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. In this role, Amy is responsible for structuring bond issues, derivative transactions, securitizations and refinancings for some of the nation's largest municipal issuers, including the City of New York. During her career, Amy has structured over $30 billion of securities and has been instrumental in the development of the municipal asset securitization market, which blends the techniques of the asset backed securities arena with the financing needs of state and local governments. In 1997, she worked on the nation's first municipal asset securitization for New York City's Transitional Finance Authority. More recently, she has led the establishment of the tobacco securitization market, in which states securitize their share of a $40 billion legal settlement with the tobacco manufacturers. Amy has structured over $9 billion of tobacco securitizations, putting Bear Stearns at the top of the league tables in this area.

Amy comments: "At IBS, I learned that my financing ideas have to change constantly to keep up with dynamic market conditions. This approach has helped me stay ahead of my competitors and give my clients the best possible advice."

I knew what I wanted and the program was flexible enough to adapt to my needs.
