Founded in 1882, Waseda University is one of Japan's leading universities. It is a private, co-educational institution located in the northwest section of Tokyo. The university is large, with more than 45,700 undergraduates and about 8,500 graduate students, and is known for its liberal climate symbolized in its motto, "independence of learning."
