While at Brandeis International Business School (IBS), you may be dealing with using a new currency. The United States currency is the US Dollar (also abbreviated as $ or USD). A great tool to use when first in the US and making purchases is a currency converter so you will know exactly how much everyday items in the US cost in your home country's currency.
For graduate students, ask your department in advance exactly what any aid, scholarships, teaching assignments or stipends cover and how much you will be expected to provide from private funds. Also, ask when you can expect your first paycheck and plan accordingly. (In order to receive your first paycheck, you will need to apply for a Social Security Number.)
The cost of attendance includes all necessary expenses for you to enroll in graduate school. These expenses include tuition and fees, housing and food costs, personal expenses, health insurance, books and supplies. The figures below are estimates for the 2013-14 academic year and need to be presented in order to receive your DS-2019.
Estimate of costs per semester
- Room and Board (based on on-campus housing costs)= $7,000.00
- Books and Supplies= $500.00
- Medical Insurance= $1,670.00
- Personal Expenditures (clothing, laundry etc.)= $1,000.00
- Transportation (after arrival in the U.S.)= $700.00
SUB TOTAL (required for DS-2019 form)= $10,870.00
Tuition and Payments
Tuition and fees should be in separate checks or money orders drawn on a U.S. bank and made payable in U.S. dollars to Brandeis University. Do NOT bring large sums of cash. Your funds must arrive at the University by the published due date. Students transferring money directly from overseas should allow 15-21 business days for processing and check clearance and request receipts at the time of the transaction. Do not send cash through the mail. Payment of tuition and fees in full can be made online via electronic check or credit card through your Sage account.
Methods of payment
Brandeis University allows payments to be made by personal or bank check or wire transfer.
Payment in full can also be made by credit card (MasterCard, Discover Card or American Express), or an additional fee, through Tuition Management Services. TMS can be reached at 888.216.4258 or www.afford.com. TMS charges a convenience fee for this service.
