Based on its mission of "developing members' investment knowledge and skill", the Global Markets Investment Club offers multiple opportunities for IBS students to do just that. For first year members, GMIC provides the chance to gain first-hand investment and market knowledge. For students with more experience, participation in GMIC activities offers a hands-on opportunity to apply the information and concepts covered in IBS classes. Participation in GMIC offers a preview and application of the following courses:

  • Investments
  • Corporate Finance
  • Portfolio Management
  • Financial Statement Analysis
  • Security Analysis
  • Financial Modeling

The group holds weekly meetings to discuss market news, past and present investments, and asset allocation strategy. Members are grouped into teams, which present weekly and evaluate investments. Under the GMIC portfolio, the club manages over $75,000 AUM.

Some of the projects that GMIC is involved in throughout the academic year include:

  • Annual IBS Stock Pitch Challenge
  • Annual Impact Investing Challenge
  • Quinnipiac University G.A.M.E. II Forum (Winner "Best Growth Portfolio", 2012)
  • Fidelity and MFS Investments "Day on the Job" trips
  • State Street Corporation tour and information session
  • Financial Modeling workshops
  • On-campus Speaker Series
  • Independent management of a small portion of the Business School's endowment through an investment portfolio
  • Networking night with Alumni, local Boston professionals and current GMIC members
  • Mock interviews; conducted by members, for members
  • Portfolio presentations

The GMIC portfolio includes work with companies in China, India, Brazil, South Africa, Russia, the United States and more. Participation in the club can also lead to networking and professional opportunities. Current and past members of GMIC have participated in internships and gone on to find careers with the following organizations and companies:
