There is no such thing as a "typical IBS student". Barbara Jjaggwe MBA, 2nd year Africa

Originally from Kampala, Uganda, Barbara Jjaggwe is a second year MBA student at IBS. She spent her university years at Barkatullah University in Bhopal, India, where she earned her Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting in 1997. During her time at university, Barbara organized annual cultural and variety shows involving students from different backgrounds and various nationalities. She also planned the Uganda Independence Day celebrations that drew Ugandan students from different universities throughout India and included a music festival, boating regatta, and a dinner and dance. After university, Barbara worked as an Accountant for a government project known as Area-Based Agricultural Modernisation Programme. This project, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development, aims at improving the income of the rural poor in Uganda at the grass roots level through the modernization of agriculture.
Barbara was active as a member of the finance committee of the Forum for African Women Education Uganda (FAWEU), a non-governmental organization that empowers orphaned and disadvantaged girls with educational opportunities. She has also volunteered with families affected by HIV, visiting hospitals and orphanages. Barbara hopes that her IBS education will provider her with a "global classroom where various participants will share rich and diverse cultural perspectives and experiences.

Tamara Cora MAief, 2nd year United States
|
A second year student in the MAief program, Tamara Cora from Chicago, Illinois studied at McGill University double-majoring in Political Science and Economics. While at McGill, Tamara was involved with the Romanian Students' Association serving as that organization's VP of External Affairs. She was also involved with Zambak Magazine, a monthly publication for displaced Bosnians living in the United States which aims to assist recent immigrants in transitioning to their new surroundings. She became acquainted with Zambak while volunteering at the Midwest Immigrant and Human Rights Center in Chicago.
Following her graduation from McGill, Tamara participated in an advanced Russian language program at St. Petersburg State University in St. Petersburg, Russia. In addition to language study, she also conducted independent research in post-Soviet constitutional reform and economic policy during her time in St. Petersburg. After returning from Russia, Tamara worked for a year as an Assistant Manager at Bebe, Inc. and then at TransPerfect Translations International, Inc., a global company that provides a full range of language and business services including translation, interpretation, website globalization, subtitling/voice-overs, multicultural marketing, diversity and inclusion consulting, deposition services, and litigation support to multinational companies.

Margaret O'Callaghan MBA, 2nd year United States
|
A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Margaret O'Callaghan, a second year MBA student, applied to IBS hoping "to gain the statistical, economic, and financial skills to effectively operate within an organization and provide effective management." A graduate of Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, Margaret majored in English while also being involved as writing tutor and contributing to the university's newspaper. She spent a year studying French at the University of Burgundy in Dijon, France.
Following university, Margaret was an AmeriCorps Volunteer for 3 years where she worked at an Unemployment Law Office in Seattle and then as a Victim Advocate Paralegal in Chicago assisting victims of domestic violence within the legal system. Following her experience with AmeriCorps, Margaret worked as an Administrator Coordinator for the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and as a Customer Advocate for the German software company, Arcplan. Her most recent work experience prior to IBS took her to the Anhui Province of China, where she taught English in the city of Wuhu.

Peter Skorpil
MBA, 2nd year
Switzerland |
Peter Skorpil, a second year MBA student, hails from Geneva, Switzerland, but this Swiss citizen is truly an international man. The son of a Swiss-German mother and a Czech father, Peter has a strong affinity for languages and an enthusiasm for travel and befriending people from different countries. Peter speaks 5 languages-German, English, French, Spanish, and Italian. During his undergraduate years, he was employed for 3 months in England at an agronomical research center working to improve wheat varieties and crop rotation in organic farming. Another 3 months were spent in Barcelona, Spain, where Peter worked as a Laboratory Technician at a Spanish beer brewery.
Peter seeks out diverse work and living environments, because he finds "contact with persons from different cultural backgrounds very stimulating and enriching." He graduated from the University of Geneva, where he earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees as well as his Ph.D. in Biology. He most recently worked as a Biologist at the University of Geneva, where some of his research focuses on the molecular interactions between symbiotic bacteria and leguminous plants. His future, however, will be in the biotechnological and pharmaceutical industry and he is looking to complement his science training with an MBA.

Janki Doshi MBA, 2nd year India |
Janki Doshi has recently embarked on her dream of pursuing an MBA. A second year student, Janki arrived at IBS via Mumbai, India. She attended Usha Mittal Institute of Technology, SNDT University, in Mumbai, where she majored in Information Technology. While at university, Janki presented research papers on software agents, computer graphics, and trends in project management while also having worked on various information technology projects.
Following her university studies, Janki worked as a Management Trainee at Computer World, where she was responsible for providing IT solutions (wireless and network solutions), production planning, and after-sale interaction with customers. Janki feels strongly that an IBS MBA is "vital to my future career." Her immediate goal after IBS is to work for a leading global company within the competitive information technology sector and, eventually, one day to serve as that company's regional or national manager.
