Distinct, but Related Programs
The Brandeis 2006 Economic Policy Series is an investment in your career and the future of your country or organization.
The Series consists of two distinct, but related programs:
These programs will provide you with the opportunity to to draw on the experience and research of distinguished faculty and fellow participants from all over the world. Not only will you learn how to apply the principles of economic policy to the problems you face in your country but also you will join a vital professional network that will support you throughout your career.
The programs feature world-class faculty including business leaders, consultants experienced in developing country policy, experts from major development assistance agencies, and distinguished economists with noteworthy policy experience.
They have been developed for public officials, private business leaders, consultants and other development professionals from developing countries who believe that sound economic performance, and with it the potential for large gains in social welfare, can be achieved only through careful analysis and informed policy management.
Which Program is Right for Me?
Whether you have significant experience or are relatively new to policymaking, the two-program series will help you develop a solid understanding of the core economic frameworks, latest research findings, and critical ideas that impact the design of effective economic policy in developing countries.
The descriptions that follow provide you with the information you need to decide which program will best meet your needs. You can also download a brochure (in PDF format) for the two programs.

Our Unique Approach
At Brandeis, our integrative, hands-on learning environment provides the ideal setting for participants to develop the knowledge and strategic skills required to develop solid economic policies. There is a strong emphasis on "learning by doing."
Critical issues will be introduced through lectures (with considerable class participation) and case studies, reinforced by both small group and individual exercises. Participants will have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills by working in teams on policy issues/opportunities that are relevant to their particular country or organization.
We also place a strong emphasis on helping participants build a strong network of professional colleagues, thereby allowing them to develop a deeper understanding of the economic policies that have been implemented successfully in other countries and giving them greater confidence in their ability to make and/or evaluate critical policy decisions in their own country.

Participant Benefits
During the two-week, intensive program, participants will have the opportunity to interact with policy makers and executives from major financial insitutions and international development assistance agencies. Through classroom teaching and the unique opportunity to exchange views with experts and key decision-makers you will:
- Learn to evaluate economic structure and performance to reduce economic vulnerability
- Develop an understanding of methods of economic analysis that will improve your professional performance within your organizations
- Create an expanded professional network that provides continual exchange of ideas and support

Country/Agency Benefits
Each program is a cost-effective and time-efficient method of educating individuals who play a pivotal role in policy management. The support it offers gives each organization and government/country a greater opportunity to achieve its long-term economic and growth strategies. Benefits include:
- A clearer understanding of the issues surrounding economic policy that helps minimize the risk of crises
- Enhanced negotiating strength of the country and/or organization
- Solid understanding of the most current, leading-edge economic issues impacting stability and growth
