Professor Joshua Katzen is a real estate developer and investor living in Newton, MA. His active real estate projects involve the development and re-development of shopping centers and apartment buildings, including in excess of 1.5 million square feet of retail space for Home Depot, Target, Trader Joe’s, Circuit City, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Stop & Shop, Borders Books and other national tenants and approximately 600 apartment units in Natick,MA.
Prof. Katzen is also a principal in Forest Realty Funding LLC, a private capital group which invests in the purchase and origination of commercial real estate-backed debt.
Prof. Katzen is the immediate past President of Gann Academy, a private Jewish high school in Waltham, MA; the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Directors of CAMERA (the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America), a national media monitoring organization; and a member of the Board of Directors of JINSA (the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs), a Washington DC defense policy think tank.
Prof. Katzen did his undergraduate work at Cornell University and the London School of Economics and has a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to starting his real estate company in 1985, he worked as an attorney at the Boston law firm Goulston & Storrs, clerked for the Hon. Caleb M. Wright of the United States District Court for the District of Delaware, and founded the Moosewood Restaurant in Ithaca, NY.
Prof. Katzen is an amateur cellist and pianist and plays regularly in a string quartet and a jazz quintet.
