Profile

A specialist in the Chinese economy, Gary Jefferson's research interests include economic development and transition and institutional economics with an emphasis on technical and institutional change. A former Fulbright Scholar at Wuhan University, he consults frequently with the World Bank. He teaches courses in development economics, industrial organization, and the Chinese economy. Currently the executive editor of the Journal of Asian Economics, he also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Comparative Economics, Chinese Economic Review, and Chinese Economic Studies. He holds a Ph.D. from Yale University and M.A. degrees from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University and the London School of Economics.

Recent Publications:

"Enterprise Reform in China: Ownership, Transition, and Performance" (with I.J. Singh, Oxford University Press. The book includes a number of Jefferson's articles that evaluate the impact of enterprise reform and examine the transition challenges faced by industrial enterprises in China.)
