Featured alumni speaker Wendy Weiss, MBA ’01, founder of Hot Flash Financial, told the graduates to value their new friendships with a talented array of individuals from across the globe. “These friendships with highly trained IBS graduates turned into something that is extraordinarily important in the job market today,” she explained. “These are networks that helped many of us build careers.”
Dean Bruce Magid also addressed the graduates, challenging them to reach at least 50% participation in class giving with the promise that he would make a commemorative gift in their honor if they managed to do so. As of May 31, 56% of the Class of 2012 had donated, with new gifts pouring in each day.
With an abundance of Brandeis IBS staff and faculty in attendance, along with 20 alumni and 75 members of the graduating class, the event stood out in a hectic week of commencement events for the Class of 2012. “I think we were all sad that our time as students had ended,” said Jessica Stanford, MBA ’12, a member of the Future Alumni Committee. “But we’re excited to be alumni, and the Future Alumni Donor Reception marks the beginning of that chapter.”
