IBS Students Receive ALPFA Scholarship

Mark Dunham MA ’10, and Elisa Palacios MBA ’10, received scholarship awards at the 2009 Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) National Convention held in Boston. Ernst & Young sponsored the scholarship luncheon and the scholarships were given to aspiring Latino students for their academic excellence, community involvement and future leadership potential. The award ceremony also featured a panel discussion where IBS Dean Bruce Magid spoke on ‘The Role of Leading Universities in Forming the Next Generation of Latino Professionals’. Other activities at the Convention included workshops, receptions, panel discussions, and a Career Fair.

ALPFA is a professional association whose mission is to retain, develop, and attract highly-skilled Latino talent in finance and accounting, through professional development, networking, mentoring, and community outreach activities. ALPFA has helped IBS students to broaden and enhance their career management skills, and acquire meaningful networking and mentoring opportunities. Elana Givens, Assistant Dean of Career Services, mentions, “IBS students have been actively involved in ALPFA Boston events more so than ever, and many have greatly benefited through the professional networks they developed at these events.”
