Noted economist Paul Romer to speak at Brandeis International Business School

April 7, 2011 WALTHAM, Mass

Once named among TIME Magazine's 25 most influential Americans, Romer to speak on "Charter Cities - From Idea to Implementation."

Paul Romer, a prominent American economist and specialist on the theory of growth and innovation, will speak at Brandeis International Business School at 6:30pm on April 11th in Thomas Lee Lecture Hall. This event will be moderated by Assistant Professor of Economics Can Erbil.

This event is open to the Brandeis community.

One of Romer's most important contributions to the field of economics is his work on ‘New Growth Theory,' which revolves around how human wants and desires can foster increasing productivity and economic growth.

Romer will discuss his recently focused attention on the concept of charter cities and their potential impact on economic prosperity. His premise is that a well-run city is an engine for growth and that collaboration among its citizens leads to a more efficient way of life. "Being around people helps make us smarter," Romer said in a recent The New York Times article.

Romer leads Charter Cities, a research non-profit focused on the interplay of rules, urbanization and development. He was chosen as one of Foreign Policy's Top 100 Global Thinkers of 2010 for his work at the organization and was also included in Harvard Business Review's list of 10 Breakthrough Ideas for 2010.
