The adventures of Marcos Sandler ’12 MA ’13 at Morgan Stanley HK

Sandler

For most of us, a Facebook post or a “retweet” on Twitter is the most exposure we will get on a day-to-day basis. Marcos Sandler ’12 MA ’13 spent the summer sending messages to a slightly broader audience. “I compile and email a summary of the major events of the day and an analysis describing what happened the previous day to every Morgan Stanley Fixed Income person in Asia,” he said. “The first couple of days I did not know the email was being sent to absolutely all of Asia, so I kept getting questions and calls from people in Singapore, Korea and Japan, and had no idea why.”

As a summer analyst working on FX Sales and Rates Sales at Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong, Sandler’s job also included creating and testing trading models. Sandler described his experience as “incredible,” and credited his Brandeis professors for helping him succeed in such a fast-paced environment. “The opportunity that Brandeis and Brandeis IBS give you to grow close relationships with your professors allows you to further interact with them outside of the classroom, even during the summer,” he said. “I was asked to write an analysis on market effects versus central bank intervention on the volatility of currencies. Most people would have struggled with the question and possibly turned to internet blogs for help, but I didn’t hesitate to contact one my professors, and she was a huge help.”
