Brandeis International Business School (IBS) will be holding its first Municipal Finance Conference on August 3, 2012. The one-day conference—bringing together academics and market professionals—will explore research on recent developments in municipal credit markets, which have seen extreme volatility and rapid change over the past few years.

The event—funded by the Rosenberg Institute of Global Finance at Brandeis IBS and a number of corporate sponsors—will feature over 30 speakers, including Massachusetts Treasurer Steven Grossman, municipal-bond entrepreneur and co-founder of Lebenthal & Co. LLC, Jim Lebenthal, professors from MIT Sloan School of Management and Babson College, and many Boston-based experts from the Federal Reserve and a variety of investment and financial management firms. 

The municipal finance conference was originally conceived by Associate Professor Daniel Bergstresser, and his industry colleague Richard Ryffel, former managing director at Edward Jones. The aim of the event is to discuss the changing state of municipal capital markets, analyze the problems the political economy faces because of these changes, and provide insights into how these problems can be addressed.
