 Arthur L. Goldstein, Chairman and CEO Emeritus of Ionics

Brandeis International Business School (IBS) will honor its 2008 graduates with a commencement ceremony on May 18, 2008. Chairman and CEO Emeritus of Ionics, Arthur L. Goldstein, will deliver the keynote address. This year, IBS will confer degrees to 191 students from over 40 different countries.

Goldstein is the retired Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Ionics, Incorporated, a world-renowned business and technology pioneer in the field of water purification. During his 32 years as CEO, he led Ionics in its growth from a small R&D company to its position as the world leader in water desalination, purification and supply with over 4,000 installations in 62 countries and 3,000 employees. General Electric purchased Ionics in early 2005 for $1.3 billion.
He is a trustee as well as the Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance Committee of Partners HealthCare System. He is a senior trustee at the California Institute of Technology, a trustee of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, an advisory council member of the Harvard Medical School-Partners HealthCare Center for Genetics and Genomics, and a member of the MIT Energy Initiative External Advisory Board. In addition, he is a director of Cabot Corporation and A123Systems, Inc.
Goldstein is the holder of 18 U.S. patents in areas relating to the purification and processing of liquids. He received a BS in chemical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an MS in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware, and an MBA from Harvard University.
