Brandeis International Business School recently named the Peter Petri Global Fellows for the 2008-2009 academic year: Angelique Ahmed M.A. ’10, Jody James MBA ’10, and Pavel Lalev M.A. ’10. All three are model IBS students, exceptional students, and very deserving Peter Petri Global Fellows.
Angelique Ahmed if originally from Dhara, Bangladesh: she was raised in a multi-cultural household, and as a child spoke Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, and English; later in life she began to study Arabic. Angelique attended Bard College, held positions as a research assistant at the Levy Economic Institute and the Maryland Population Research Center. She has volunteered with various organizations in Bangladesh, primarily working with the poor to help relieve their economic and health conditions.
By the time Angelique completed her senior honors thesis on emerging markets, she decided to continue her studies at the graduate level to better understand developing countries and their impact on the global economy and community. At IBS, she is a candidate for a master’s degree in International Economics and Finance.
Jody James, the first Native American to join the IBS community, comes to Brandeis with several years of experience in the financial sector. He completed his B.A. in History from LeMoyne College in 2001, and was a teacher for several years. Later, he began a career with the Aon Corporation, and then took a position with Prudential Life Insurance. Jody made a transition to the banking industry when he worked as a banker with Citizens Bank, and finally as a financial advisor with Ameriprise.
Jody applied to business school with a very specific goal in mind. A native of Maine, he is exceptionally dedicated to his home state. Over the years he has been concerned that the state has needed to diversify and expand its economy, and he looks forward to acquiring the tools he will need to achieve these goals as a candidate of the MBA program.
Our third new Peter Petri Fellow is Pavel Lalev. Originally from Bulgaria, Pavel received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Economics in Varna, Bulgaria in 2003. After graduation, Pavel moved to the United States and completed a marketing internship with HomeCare and, later, a full time position with Nickerson Service Center in Braintree. He quickly moved up to a management position. In the meantime, Pavel also completed coursework at Quincy College and Northeastern University.
Now in his first year of the master’s program in International Economics and Finance, Pavel’s drive and passion are evident. In addition to his native language, he speaks Russian, German, and, of course, English. He is already making a positive contribution in all of his classes.
