Dean's Letter

Fall 2013

Dear Friends,

This summer has been an eventful one at Brandeis International Business School (IBS). I'm excited to share some highlights with you.

#1 in Financial Times MA rankings

The FT once again ranked Brandeis IBS No. 1 in the U.S. for pre-experience masters in finance programs. We also ranked No. 2 in the world for "aims achieved," defined by the level of satisfaction our alumni have with their degree and in fulfilling their goals.

Municipal Finance Conference 2013

In August we held our second annual Municipal Finance Conference at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. Co-sponsored by the Bond Buyer, the event featured a keynote address by St. Louis Fed chief James Bullard (left) and was covered by publications such as the Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe and the LA Times.

Turkish immersion

In June, 30 Hassenfeld Fellows spent 10 days in Azerbaijan and Turkey, where they witnessed first-hand as a peaceful sit-in spurred national protests and global headlines.

Entrepreneurial Finance and Innovation Conference

At June's fourth annual event, co-sponsored by the Asper Center for Global Entrepreneurship, academics shared insights on the financing of entrepreneurial firms, including keynote speaker Paul Gompers (left), a Harvard professor whose research focuses on private equity.

Latin America Initiative

Two years after launching our initiative we've made great in-roads in Brazil and Colombia, as well as Panama, where I'll be traveling this fall. In August I delivered a keynote address at the national convention for the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting, which was a great opportunity for students to network with major companies.

Our World Ready brand

In August, we launched our new website, videos, messaging and tagline ("World Ready"). The new site's bold, clean design - compatible on desktop, mobile and tablet - represents a major step forward in our branding initiative, and is designed to support our efforts to attract top students from around the world.

Looking ahead

This fall promises even more excitement on campus, with our annual Stock Pitch Challenge and the launch of our new BA/MBA dual-degree program in which students can start their MBA studies as undergrads and finish in just three additional semesters.

From everyone here at Brandeis IBS, we wish you a great fall and look forward to connecting with you again soon.
