Coexistence International visits Ghana and Liberia for workshops on democracy and justice
Three members of the Brandeis community who work on reconciliation and coexistence recently consulted with leading government, civil-society and international officials in Liberia in an effort to strengthen peace, justice and democracy in that formerly violence-plagued West African nation. They also visited Ghana for a three-day workshop on sustainable and inclusionary democracies.

Chinese scholar of Judaism enlightens Brandeis
“I hope the audience…will learn how a Chinese scholar looks at Judaism,” Fu Youde says of his visit to Brandeis, where he gave a public lecture and two teach-ins. He said he hopes to establish an academic relationship between the two universities.

- Kwame Anthony Appiah awarded the inaugural Joseph B. and Toby Gittler Prize
On October 27, the University will award the inaugural Joseph B. and Toby Gittler Prize to Professor Kwame Anthony Appiah at a special awards ceremony and lecture which is scheduled to take place in the Rapaporte Treasure Hall.
New projects in the Brandeis-Al-Quds University Partnership
This summer, Brandeis undergraduates and graduate students joined their peers at Al-Quds University for discussions ranging from "What is a good society?" to "What is effective teaching?" Read more about the Summer Institute in Turkey and the Distinguished International Teaching Fellows program.

Brandeis to strengthen ties to India
Brandeis has a long and multi-faceted history of engagement with India, including prominent alumni connections, academic relationships and curricular initiatives. In the coming months and years, the Office of Global Affairs will be leading an effort to build on these substantial ties to develop even closer relationships and deeper partnerships in India.

Ethics Center Student Fellows report on summer placements
Each summer, a group of Brandeis students undertake an internship of their choice - anywhere in the world - with the goal of improving the lives of others and discovering more about themselves in the process. Nobel Peace Laureates Shirin Ebadi and Jody Williams to Visit Brandeis
Laureates will speak on "Gender, Peace, and Human Rights" as part of the HBI Project on Gender, Culture, Religion, and the Law. An Iranian lawyer and human rights activist, Ebadi (right) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003; Jody Williams, professor of peace and social justice at the University of Houston, was the 1997 recipient for her work with the International Campaign to Ban Landmines.

Grantees will develop campus and overseas relationships to strengthen the international teaching, research, and campus life dimensions of Brandeis.
