Sequential Degrees

After earning your master's degree, you may choose pursue a second GPS master's degree in a related field.

You must apply for admission to the second master's degree within two years of completion of the first master's degree. While you must satisfy all admission requirements, transcripts already on file do not need to be resubmitted.

Courses are transferred between different GPS programs (for example, from Software Engineering to Bioinformatics) under the following policies:

  • No more than three GPS graduate-level courses may be transferred from the first master's degree program to the second master's degree program.
  • No more than one GPS graduate-level course may be transferred from a graduate certificate program to a master's degree  program.
  • Each transferred course must satisfy current program requirements, and the grade received must be B- or higher.

Students considering the sequential degree opportunity are strongly encouraged to seek program advising early on, to create a proper course selection and create an academic path.
