Curtis H. Tearte, ‘73
Commencement Speaker

Curtis Tearte is a leader in business transformation and technology. He joined IBM in 1979 and rapidly progressed through four consecutive levels as director, vice president and general manager. He is responsible for multiple sectors across the key revenue-generating areas of the company with revenues up to $15 billion and worldwide teams up to 1,200 personnel.

Mr. Tearte also served on the IBM Worldwide Management Committee, which is comprised of the top 60 IBM Executives. In his final position, he spearheaded the company’s single largest infrastructure IT transformation, designed as a model for U.S. state and allied foreign governments.

After retirement in 2013, he formed Tearte Associates, a firm providing investment management, business consulting and educational opportunities via the Tearte Family Foundation. The Foundation identifies high-potential students to become Tearte Scholars and receive professional development and financial support.

Mr. Tearte holds a JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law, a BA from Brandeis University, and studies political science and international affairs at Howard University and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.

He serves on the boards of Brandeis University Board of Trustees, Brandeis Alumni Association, and the University of Connecticut Law School Foundation. He is a member of the Executive Leadership Council, and he chairs the southeast Advisory selection committee of the Jackie Robinson Foundation.

Louis Rosa III, MD
Student Speaker

Louis Rosa is the Principle Investigator for the SCENIC-Spine Comparative Effectiveness and New Instability trial, which is designed to look at the use of controlled spinal motion in the determination of spinal instability. He is also the Co-Investigator for the Innovate HF Trial, a device study trial for the treatment of heart failure by the use of gated stimulation of the Vagus Nerve.

Mr. Rosa is a May 2015 graduate, completing a Master of Science in Health and Medical Informatics. In addition, he holds a Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. and brings more than 30 years of experience in the neurosurgery and radiation therapy fields.

Leanne M. Bateman, MA
Rabb School of Continuing Studies Award for Outstanding Teaching

Leanne Bateman, MA, PMP, CSM, CIP, Six Sigma Green Belt is the Principal Consultant with Beacon Strategy Group, a Boston-based management firm specializing in project management services. She has more than 20 years of project management experience across the areas of health care, information technology, high-tech manufacturing, human resources, housing, government and higher education.

Ms. Bateman serves as Academic Program Chair and faculty member for the Project & Program Management and Strategic Analytics graduate programs in the Division of Graduate Professional Studies. She has taught at Brandeis University since 2007.
