Health/Medical Informatics Independent Study Project
The purpose of this course is to provide students an opportunity to demonstrate mastery of a core competency in the health and medical informatics field. Students will write an in-depth research paper that summarizes and reflects their work. Prior to registering for this course, students must have an agreement for supervision from an instructor and an approved statement of intent that includes an abstract of the project along with its objectives and preliminary milestones.
Categories of suitable topics include:
Evaluation of administration practices in a health/medical organization.
Research in support of an organizational goal.
Exploration of current developments within the profession.
Evaluation of national and global IT policies and practices that affect the delivery of healthcare services.
Exploration of the legal and ethical issues related to IT and their implications on practice for the healthcare administrator.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
Initiate, plan, manage and deliver a complete paper.
Investigate and interpret information relevant to the problem.
Demonstrate originality and independent thinking in the application of knowledge gained.
Demonstrate critical judgment in the evaluation of research results.
Present the results in an appropriate professional manner.
