Overview

Looking for a thought-provoking experience in a community of like-minded readers? Want to explore Jewish women's writing and hear firsthand from prominent authors?

A program of the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute, HBI Conversations is a national innovative book and author series that brings together Jewish women and authors to meet and discuss books dealing with Jewish and gender issues. At each of the meetings (number per year varies by location), you will hear from the author and have the opportunity to discuss her work. Started in 2001 in Palm Beach, Fla., the program has grown and there are currently 13 groups from Palm Beach to Park City, Utah with over 500 women of all ages participating. Groups generally consist of 30-40 people, enabling an intimate conversation with each author.

What types of books are selected?

Both fiction and non-fiction books (memoirs, biographies) dealing with Jewish and gender issues are selected by each local Conversations community based on recommendations from the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute.

Join HBI Conversations and learn what it's like to be an educated Jewish woman living in 17th century London, a Jewish, female foreign correspondent covering war torn Central America and Mexico in the 1980s, a modern day Jewish woman grappling with intense issues of faith, identify and family, and so much more.

JBC logo HBI Conversations has been a network site of the Jewish Book Council since 2010 thus providing extraordinary access to authors with recently published books.
