Support the HBI Project on Latin American Jewish & Gender Studies

What: HBI Project on Latin American Jewish & Gender Studies (LAJGS) is committed to the study and exploration of Jewish life and gender in Latin America and among Latin American Jews worldwide. Dedicated to scholarship and art, LAJGS bridges the academy and the community through culture. LAJGS is led by Dalia Wassner, Ph.D., a professor, author, and researcher in Latin American Jewish Studies and World History.

Why: Latin American Jews are the third largest Jewish Diaspora in the world. For this reason, understanding American and world Jewry requires taking into account the over 500,000 Jews who live in Latin America or have emigrated from Latin America to the United States, Israel, Europe, Canada, and other parts of the world.

LAJGS is the first institutional project dedicated to studying the Latin American Jewish experience, through the lens of gender. In today’s world, promoting exploration of minority identities—including those of Jews, women, and immigrants—is especially important.

How: LAJGS seeks to continue to create a variety of academic, cultural, and community programs to advance its mission, including:

  • On-campus academic experiences, courses, and informal learning opportunities for students

  • A visiting scholars program and academic conferences, to promote research by established and emerging scholars in the field

  • Cultural events and community projects

When: Now! LAJGS is raising funds to support and expand its programs. Please contribute today, and thank you for being a part of our future.
