A dynamic and authentic representation
of feminism in Israel by some of its leading exponents
and activists.
Bringing together for the first time the voices of
scholars, practitioners, artists and activists on
the topic of Jewish feminism in Israel, the essays
in this collection present a systematic, critical,
and dynamic view of Israeli Jewish feminism within
its specific social and political contexts. The volume’s
particular strength lies in the multiple ways it addresses
women’s experiences in Israeli society, focusing
both on the obstacles to equality and the creative
ways in which women are coming together to pursue
change and transform their environment. Essays range
from broad discussions of Israeli feminism and women
and religion in Israel, to more specific examinations
of gender relations in kibbutz life, Mizrahi feminism,
and women’s peace movements.

“An essential introduction to a neglected facet
of Israeli life, providing timely and unblinkered
assessments of how an emerging feminist movement is
affecting the diverse ethnic and religious communities
of women who coexist in contemporary Israel, as well
as their larger social settings.”
