FLU Vaccine

Flu season starts in the fall, usually peaks in Jan. or Feb., with outbreaks  occurring through May. Approximately 5-20% of U.S. residents get the flu each year. Each Fall Semester in late September or early October the Health Center offers flu vaccine clinics. This year we are offering the quadrivalent vaccine which protects against 4 strains of the flu virus (2 A types and 2 B types). This years clinics will be October 1 and October 7th. Save the dates!

By Massachusetts State Regulations, all students must have documentation of  required vaccines or proof of immunity through blood titers before coming to campus.  A registration hold will be placed on all students with incomplete records.  Occasionally a student begins an immunization series late or is unable to complete the requirements before arriving on campus. The Health Center is able to help you complete immunizations and Tuberculin Skin Testing (TST).  Vaccines are available on a walk in basis from 9:30-11:30 and 1:00-4 (or by appointment if you cannot get in during the walk in hours).

Students who believe they were immunized in the past and do not want to be immunized again may have a blood test drawn to detect the presence of antibodies (a titer).  Most insurances do not pay for these titers so we have arranged a reasonably priced self pay option which can be paid directly to the laboratory providing these services.
