Student Profile

  • Brandeis students are high quality candidates who approach problems creatively and critically, can think on their feet, and effectively communicate their ideas

  • Broad Thinkers :

Throughout the Brandeis experience, students learn in an environment that focuses on developing integrated knowledge from different fields. This begins Freshman year through Brandeis University Studies Program and continues as students explore their selected majors both in-depth and across disciplines.

  • Excellent Communicators:

Through a curriculum that emphasizes writing and communications skills as well as strong involvement in co-curricular activities, Brandeis students have excellent interpersonal skills and effective writing capabilities.

  • Creative and Critical Thinkers:

From first year, Brandeis students have the relatively rare opportunity to study in close mentoring relationships with outstanding teachers. These highly involved faculty, of nationally and internationally acclaimed scholars, engage students in quantitative and qualitative problem solving within and across disciplines.

  • Leaders:
One of the cornerstones of the Brandeis community is to provide opportunities for students to learn and practice leadership through social, cultural and educational activities initiated and developed by individual students. Brandeis is also a student-directed community--a place where the student voice challenges and directs the shape of the institution .

  • Experienced:
Through strong internship participation, Brandeis students gain real work experience in top companies such as: Biogen, Bear Stearns, and Grey Advertising. They also enjoy research opportunities, throughout their education, that are typically available only to upperclassmen and graduate students.

  • Highly Sought After:
Graduates of Brandeis were hired by Citigroup, American Express Financial, JP Morgan, Putnum Investments, Teach for America, City Year, Department of Justice, Cigna Healthcare, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Meditech, Mercury Computer Systems, ESPN , and Disney.

The Brandeis Education

  • Academic excellence has always characterized Brandeis, the youngest private research university in the country. It combines the breadth and scope of a world-class research institution with the intimacy and faculty contact of a small liberal arts college. The school supports an innovative and exciting program of learning that emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge and the solution of real-life problems.

Brandeis is the only nonsectarian Jewish-sponsored college or university in the country. A culturally diverse student body of 3,020 undergraduates and 1,199 graduate students enjoys unsurpassed access to an involved faculty of nationally and internationally acclaimed scholars.

The Hiatt Career Center serves all undergraduate students and Graduate students in Arts and Sciences. There is a separate Career Office for Graduate students of International Business (IBS)Heller School, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Rabb School.

  • Many Brandeis students choose to study multiple curriculums. More than half of the undergraduate population pursues at least one minor and nearly a third declare a double major. Brandeis has been ranked second out of 3,000 U.S. colleges and universities in the percentage of faculty who are members of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Brandeis counts among its 373 full-time faculty two Pulitzer Prize winners, three MacArthur Foundation Fellows and five Howard Hughes Medical Investigators.
