Resources for Students

Reflect - Explore - Connect

Reflect - Explore - Connect outlines the Hiatt Career Center's career development plan for Brandeis students.  These three activities support: 1) the discovery of a deep understanding and self-awareness of the career fields and work environments that match your strengths and help to forge an intellectually and professionally satisfying work life; 2) allow you to experiment with your ideas about the world of work, meet people who you think have interesting careers, research graduate education options, and test out and gain experience in real organizations and offices; and 3) to connect with and compete for opportunities about which you are well-prepared and passionate.

There is no mandatory timeline for Reflect - Explore - Connect activities during your years at Brandeis and you will revisit this sequence over and over again in your career, long after you's left the university.  Yet, there are key suggested activities that roughly coincide with your four-year program and Hiatt is pleased to present them to you and offer our help as a career partner.

This plan will help you to chart your progress towards educational and career goals during your four years at Brandeis. The plan includes concrete suggestions, when and how to develop resumes and cover letters, as well as less specific suggestions, to build leadership, organizational and teamwork skills, that will support success in any career field.

To support you in your process, Hiatt offers the following:

Career Counseling Appointments

Our career counseling sessions provide support, information and guidance to students at all stages of their career development. Individual appointments are either one hour in length or one half hour in length, and can take place in person or over the phone. Career counseling sessions can cover a wide variety of topics and concerns including career exploration and decision making, decisions about graduate school, job search strategies, resume and cover letter critiques, interview and networking preparation, negotiating salaries and others terms of employment. To schedule an appointment call 781-736-3618.

Shadowing Program
Hiatt shadowing experience & alumni networking is an opportunity for you to visit an alumnus/a or a friend of the University and develop career-related knowledge, skills, and values from direct experience.

Internship Program and WOW
Internships are supervised work experiences in which students combine critical thinking and intentional reflection with your liberal arts interests. By embarking on an internship, you will be able to sharpen your skills, develop career interests and employer contacts, assess your strengths, and connect classroom theories to practice in real world settings.  Hiatt also administers WOW, the World of Work program. This program offers scholarships for first years, sophomores, and juniors who want to intern during the summer with organizations that do not have the financial resources to provide a salary.

Programs and Events
Hiatt offers a variety of events throughout the year including recruitment and graduate/professional school fairs, networking events, career panels and skill-building workshops.  Please login to B.hired for our full program schedule.

Internship and Job Postings
B.hired houses thousands of internship and job postings from employers seeking to hire Brandeis students and alumni.

On-campus Recruiting
On-campus Recruiting is a program through which you may schedule interviews with companies coming on campus to recruit for jobs and internships.  It is facilitated through B.hired.

Credential Service
A credential folder contains materials which support your application for jobs or admission to graduate schools. Included are letters of recommendation, transcripts and other appropriate items that support your candidacy. Hiatt has partnered with Interfolio to provide this service.  There is a $15 charge for this service, payable online to Interfolio.* Please note: Medical school recommendations are handled by Academic Services.
