The Final Decision - Where Should I Go?
1. How do I choose which school to attend?
The generally accepted advice has always been to attend the best school to which you've been accepted. We suggest you take some time to determine what "best" means for you. Here are some things to consider:
- competitiveness of the school
- feedback from Brandeis alumni who have attended
- affordability
- location
- availability of clinics
- placement assistance (summer and permanent employment)
- courses in a specific area of law in which you're interested
- diversity of student body and faculty
- faculty accessibility, backgrounds
- facilities (library, housing, etc.)
- size of student body in relation to size of faculty
- where you would like to begin your practice
We encourage you to visit schools before making a final decision. Also, you may want to discuss your decision with Hiatt's pre-law advisor.
2. Can I defer? Some law schools may allow you to defer. Others may not. Some may let you reactivate your application the following year by sending an updated law school report form and a small fee. Others may require that you start all over. Keep in mind that you will need to renew your LSDAS subscription regardless. Check with schools individually to confirm their policies.
