Dean's Letter

1. What is a Dean's letter?

A Dean's letter is a statement from Brandeis University verifying what, if any, disciplinary action has been taken against you. You will find that only some of your schools will request one.

2. Where do I get Dean's letters?

As a current student, Brandeis alumnus/a or grad student you will request Dean's letters through Academic Affairs. The name you need to write on the application is Richard Sawyer, Dean of Student Life. Allow up to ten working days to process your request. Information needed includes:

- your name
- year of graduation
- ID or social security number
- phone number (day)
- the form and envelope which come with your application

3. What do I do if my Dean doesn't know me?

Not to worry. Your Dean's letter is not a recommendation, so your Dean does not need to know you personally. It is a form letter which contains information drawn from your Brandeis record.
