Jewish + Female = Athlete is one of three traveling exhibitions produced by the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute. Complemented in style and content by the wall-calendars of the same name, the traveling exhibition explores the rich history of Jewish women in sports. From traditional sportstennis, soccer, and basketballto the cutting-edgewindsurfing, kitesurfing, and saber-fencingJewish women have had an extraordinary effect on the history and development of sports around the globe. The women featured in the exhibit exemplify both the broad spectrum of Jewish women’s athletic participation and the global Jewish community; with 14 sports represented, the athletes hail from 13 countries around the globe.
The exhibit itself is a free-standing display comprised of
four main parts: the two peripheral parts of the display containing
the athletes’ biographical information each are four-feet
wide, while the two parts of the main display containing full-color,
in-action photos of the athletes each are eight-feet wide.
Though the exhibit is 24 linear-feet long, it can be broken
down into its main components and easily put into small or
atypically-shaped spaces. Feel free to look through the available
photos on the website to get a better sense of the exhibition’s
dimensions!
The Jewish + Female = Athlete exhibit is free to travel for periods of one weekend to upwards of three weeks; pricing will vary with the desired length of the stay. Feel free to e-mail the HBI (hbi@brandeis.edu)
