Financing the MA

Tuition for 2006/07 is $32,951 (or half that for one semester). The same charges apply for study abroad, but students receive a grant to offset the cost of airfare. Students should anticipate a 3-5% annual increase in tuition costs for future years.

Expenses
Living expenses for a single individual on an economical budget are around $9,000-$11,000 for the academic year. Limited housing is available in graduate residence halls for approximately $4,500 for the academic year for a single person.

Financing your degree
IBS is aggressively committed to attracting highly qualified students. Relative to other business and professional schools, we offer generous financial aid.

The School awards both merit-based and need-based aid. Our major merit-based scholarship programs make awards to nearly one-third of incoming students. Students do not have to apply separately for financial aid. Every applicant - whether from the US or from other countries - is automatically considered for merit-based scholarships, and every student who completes the Statement of Financial Resources in our application is also considered for need-based awards. Financial aid awards are communicated to the student at the time he or she is admitted.

Despite our generous aid program, students need to have substantial resources of their own, because the Brandeis degree is costly. All master’s students will need to finance their living expenses, and nearly all pay a significant part of tuition.

In addition to aid from Brandeis, students should explore scholarships offered by their employers, government, and other public and private sources. IBS students frequently apply to, and receive support from, the Fulbright, Muskie, Ron Brown, World Bank, Ford, Mandela, Soros and other scholarship programs. See a list of external resources that may be available to you.

US residents may be also eligible for low-cost federal loans. To apply, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and indicate Brandeis University as a recipient (Title IV code 002133). This can be done on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Scholarships

The School's merit-based financial aid draws on several major scholarship programs:

  • Dean’s Prize Scholarships offer up to full tuition awards to students of exceptional merit.
  • American Leadership Awards recognize outstanding US citizens and residents with scholarships that offset part of tuition costs.
  • Global Leadership Awards recognize outstanding candidates of other nationalities with scholarships that offset part of tuition costs.
  • The Feld and Scharfman scholarships recognize students with special accomplishments in business, finance and economics with scholarships that offset part of tuition costs.
  • Lubin Endowed Scholarlship and Fellowship, awarded to an incoming student from Africa or Eastern Europe studying international relations including economic, social and labor issues, offsetting part of tuition costs.

Our need-based aid program, which provides support to some students not selected for merit awards, considers a combination of financial need and qualifications for professional success. In any given year, the amount of need-based aid is subject to the availability of funds.
