Icorps

The National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps program helps university scientists and engineers extend their work beyond the laboratory, accelerating the economic and societal benefits of NSF-funded, basic-research projects that are ready to move toward commercialization.

Brandeis University is one of only four I-Corps sites in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Through our I-Corps programs, grantees learn to identify product opportunities from academic research, and gain skills in entrepreneurship through training in customer discovery and guidance from established entrepreneurs.

U.S. Small Business Administration

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) was created in 1953 as an independent agency of the federal government to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small business concerns, to preserve free competitive enterprise and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of our nation. Visit the SBA Web site for statistics and research.

Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Programs

The SBA's Office of Technology administers the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Through these two competitive programs, SBA ensures that the nation's small, high-tech, innovative businesses are a significant part of the federal government's research and development efforts.

Eleven federal departments participate in the SBIR program. Five departments participate in the STTR program awarding $2 billion to small high-tech businesses.
