Student Testimonial

Thanks to ISSO I have had a wonderful semester at Brandeis. From the very welcoming and informative International Student Orientation, to the fun and delicious Open Doors Potluck Dinner, to the surprising and yummy Try-A-Pie Thanksgiving-themed contest, I have truly enjoyed every activity ISSO organized and sponsored.

During these activities and many other, I can always find a familiar smiling face. She is my Open Doors host, Audra. She is a caring and loving host. Her welcome reached me long before I arrived in Brandeis. Knowing that someone was there for me really meant a lot to me. She is also an encouraging and inspiring host. Her commitment to the many activities on campus have encouraged my involvement. Those involvements have truly enriched my college experience.

My favorite moment is when she invited me to her aunt's house near Providence for Thanksgiving Dinner. It was the first time for me to be in an American household, to see and feel the holiday atmosphere. I felt I was part of something exciting and joyful. The food was unforgettable, so were the warm-hearted people I met. That night was absolutely perfect. When we left her aunt's house later that night, she handed me a lunch-box that contained a little of all my favorite dish from the dinner. It was so understanding and considerate of her. I felt cared and loved. I am truly thankful to my host and the Open Doors program. Just as the program's name indicates, it has opened new doors, exposed me to a new culture and provided me with new perspectives. It constantly encouraged me to reach out. It is this encouragement that made it possible for me to become the person I am today. Thank you. -Kathy
