Social Security Office Not processing Social Security Number Applications During Government Shutdown
Social Security Offices are still NOT processing applications for Social Security Numbers while the U.S. Government shutdown is still in effect.
The ISSO will be sure to send out an announcement over ISSOnews once we have confirmed that the Social Security Offices will resume accepting applications.
If you are waiting to begin on-campus employment due to not yet having a Social Security Number, please keep your hiring department informed. If there are any questions, please feel free to contact the Student Employment Office or the ISSO.
We apologize for any inconvenience and hope that the government shutdown will end soon.
“Entrepreneurship and the International Students” Seminar
Monday, November 11th at 6pm
Lurias, Hassenfeld Conference Center
The ISSO staff are often approached by international students with questions about starting a business or entering into a business partnership while in the U.S. on a student visa. Given the complexities of advising students on these particular types of questions, the ISSO has invited respected immigration attorney Elizabeth Goss, Partner at Tocci, Goss & Lee, PC, to present a seminar for international students on this topic. Attorney Goss’ bio is available online (https://www.lawtgl.com/
This workshop is open to students, scholars, staff and faculty interested in this topic.
If you will be traveling outside of the U.S. for the upcoming Thanksgiving or winter holidays, double check that you have obtained a travel signature on your I-20 or DS-2019 that will be less than 6 months old when you re-enter the U.S.
To help you figure out if you need a travel signature or not, please find more information on our website under Travel Information.
Important Note: If you are planning to travel to another country, other than your home country, during the vacation periods, be sure to check on the Consulate website for those countries that you will be traveling to if you need a visitor/tourist visa to enter that country.
If you need a new travel signature, please bring your I-20 or DS-2019 to leave at the ISSO, and you can retrieve it the following day.
Please plan in advance!
