ANNOUNCEMENT: Social Security Office Now Accepting SSN Applications
Social Security Office Now Accepting SSN Applications
The ISSO has confirmed with the Waltham Social Security Administration Office that with the government shutdown ended they are now accepting Social Security Number (SSN) applications.
When you go down to the Social Security Administration Office to apply for the SSN, please be sure that you carry with you all required documentation, including:
* all visa documents (passport, copy of I-94 card or electronic I-94 copy, Form I-20 for F visa holders, Form DS-2019 for J visa holders)
* job offer letter (Brandeis employees/postdocs)
OR International Student Employment Form from the Student Employment Office (student on-campus jobs, except for Sodexo)
OR job offer confirmation letter from Sodexo (if working for Sodexo on-campus for dining/food services/catering)
* letter from the ISSO confirming status for application for the SSN
Please note that the Social Security Numbers are NOT issued immediately. The Social Security card, with the number, will be mailed to you directly at the address provided in the application you provide to the Social Security Office. You should receive the card within 7-10 days.
Once you receive your SSN, you should then notify the appropriate office (Sodexo, if employed by Sodexo; Student Employment Office if you have an on-campus job other than Sodexo; Brandeis Human Resources/Payroll if you are a new Brandeis staff or faculty member, postdoctoral researcher, or visiting scholar)
If any questions arise, please feel free to contact the ISSO.
Thank you for your understanding and your patience during the government shutdown.
