Washington DC Jewish Film Festival (2002)
Exodus to Berlin depicts the resurgence of the Jewish community in Germany and the concurrent rise of right radical violence. The collapse of communism in Eastern Europe unleashed antisemitism in the former Soviet bloc creating the first massive exodus of Jews since survivors of World War II and the Holocaust fled Europe after 1945.
Today, in bittersweet irony, tens of thousands of Jews escape persecution by fleeing to Germany. Despite increasing incidents of violent skinhead racism and the success of right wing politicians playing to prejudice, Jews are building thriving communities in Germany, the site of the fastest growing Jewish population outside of Israel.
