Autism Spectrum Disorders: Research, Strategies and Resources
Thursday, March 8, 2012, 6:30-9:00 pm at the Freedman Center, Newton
This workshop will examine autism spectrum disorders and the challenges professionals face in working with children (through middle school age) with this diagnosis. Discussion will include current research findings on causation and review recommended educational practices. Participants will brainstorm problem-solving strategies using fictional case studies and practice active listening, which is especially helpful when adults must engage in sensitive conversations about these children. This workship will also identify resources for proessionals and families.
Attention-Deficit Disorder and Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: Research, Strategies and Resources
Thursday, March 15, 2012, 6:30-9:00 pm at the Freedman Center, Newton
This program will examine the nature of attention deficits and the subtypes of this neurobehavioral syndrome. It will review the most current research findings on causation along with effective strategies for professionals working with children (through middle school age) with ADD or ADHD. Participants will brainstorm problem-solving using fictional or authentic case studies from a strengths perspective, and learn about specific resources for both professionals and families.
