Jonathan Dordick, the director of the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies and Howard P. Isermann Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), was appointed vice president for research at RPI. In his new role, he will be responsible for advancing the research enterprise across the full range of academic disciplines and interdisciplinary activities. A leading researcher himself, Jonathan has established an internationally recognized program through which he has published 300 peer-reviewed papers and successfully applied for numerous patents. Susan Tanur, director of grants for the Columbus Jewish Foundation (CJF), invited Susannah Sagan ’81, the associate director at the Ohio State University Hillel, to give a talk on the importance of building strong relationships between funders and agencies. The presentation was part of the CJF board of trustees’ fall meeting. Mark Shirman, CEO and president of RiverMeadow Software, and founder and former CEO of GlassHouse Technologies, was appointed to the board of directors of OpenSky Corp., which provides IT consulting services. Kenneth Levin, director of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital in Michigan, received the hospital’s 2012 Joseph Ponka Caring Specialty Physician Award. The annual award has been presented since 1990 to a physician who practices exemplary compassion and caring. Kenneth was honored for fostering communication and team spirit, expending extraordinary effort in the service of patients, and displaying a caring attitude toward others as a doctor and a colleague.
