David Klein is co-founder and CEO of CommonBond, a student loan crowd-funding platform with a unique vision and plan to fix the broken student loan system. CommonBond, launched at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, connects student borrowers and alumni investors to provide loans at a lower fixed rate. Through the CommonBond model, students pay a 6.24 percent fixed-interest rate and can save $20,000 over the course of loan repayment relative to traditional alternatives, while alumni investors can expect to earn an annual return of more than 4 percent. Before launching CommonBond, David worked at American Express and McKinsey & Co. Andrew Slack and his Harry Potter Alliance, which he launched in 2005, were featured in a Boston Globe column. Andrew told columnist Joanna Weiss that he created the organization to channel the enthusiasm of Harry Potter fans into activism that was not political. “A lot of these kids are finding no access point to engage and no one willing to speak their language,” he said. “I put everything into the framework of Harry Potter.” Rebecca Weinstock and David Dagan, MA’03, were married at the Evergreen Museum and Library in Baltimore on Oct. 14, 2012.
