Miriam “Yummie” Gelfand Oberstein ’90, of West Hartford, Conn., a special educator, died on March 26. After teaching early-childhood special education in New York City, she returned to school at the Jewish Theological Seminary’s Cantorial School. She used her newfound training to help special-education children attain b’nai mitzvot, and also taught music and directed musical programs at the Montessori School of Greater Hartford for many years. She leaves her husband, Robert ’90; children Jordan and Maya; and sisters Corinne, Rabbi Shoshana, and Deborah. James Lish ’92, of Brookline, Mass., an attorney, died on Feb. 14. He leaves his father, Eugene; and his sister, Sandra.
