Leonard Asper’s family foundation, the Asper Foundation, was recently honored by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. The foundation’s green-learning program operates throughout Israel, reaching more than 4,000 Israeli schoolchildren. It uses gardens and innovative curricula to improve crucial life skills and advance academic learning beyond the classroom. Malca Bassan is writing a book, “Soon in Our Days,” about the lessons of the prophets in each of the haftarot. Scott Bermack has joined law firm Weber Gallagher, where he is the managing partner of the new New York City office, located in Times Square. He specializes in defending product liability, professional liability, general liability and commercial matters. Evan Cohn runs a children’s yoga teacher-training company with his wife, Haris Lender. Based in St. Petersburg, Florida, Kidding Around Yoga has more than 40 trainers, who have taught more than 5,000 people how to teach yoga, meditation and mindfulness to children. Steven Katz, who lives in Greenwich, Connecticut, married Sarit Orlofksy on Secret Beach in Maui, Hawaii, on July 27. Susan (Elsner) Lit is chief performance and strategy officer at Harbor Health Services, which owns and operates community health centers and an elder-service program in Boston and on Cape Cod. Heather Zakson lives in Santa Monica, California, with her husband, Pepe, and their four children, now mostly grown. She writes, “I’m still a bookworm, still love to dance, and am still working a mindful and compassionate path toward smashing the patriarchy. I’ve been practicing law for 15 years, specializing in special-education and disability civil-rights litigation.” She enjoys keeping track of her Brandeis friends through social media.
