Tsafrir Goldberg
Post-doctoral Fellow

Tsafrir Goldberg is an Israeli educational researcher and teacher educator. Building on his 12 years of experience teaching in one of Jerusalem's underprivileged neighborhoods, he bases his work on field-oriented theoretical approaches such as situated learning and communities of practice. His dissertation was an inquiry into how adolescents learn about historical controversies. This soon expanded into the realms of identity and collective memory.

Tsafrir’s deepening professional, empirical and theoretical involvement in learning research evolved not only into academic writing but also into work in teacher education and textbook writing. In 2009 those combined fields of interest brought him to the University of Haifa where he is currently researching issues of identity in learning.

At the Mandel Center this year Tsafrir is working on a research project probing historical understanding of Arab and Jewish Israeli students studying the Jewish Palestinian conflict, supported by the National Academy of Education-Spencer Fund. He also serves as mentor in Jewish Education in pre-service teacher training, and collaborates in research on the DeLeT program.
