Senior Education Specialist
As co-director of the Induction Partnership at the Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education at Brandeis, Vivian Troen develops and implements school collaborations between Jewish day schools and the university. These partnerships help schools build capacity to strengthen new teacher induction practices and foster the development of school-wide professional learning communities. Vivian is also affiliated with the DeLeT/MAT program.
For over thirty years Vivian Troen has been a teacher, leader, advocate of the professionalization of teaching, and innovator in education reform. She is a consultant to schools and school systems nationally and internationally on issues of teacher leadership and teacher teams, and has most recently been engaged in school reform initiatives in Singapore, Spain, Japan, South Africa, Australia, and in several urban and rural schools and districts in the U.S. She spends at least a day a week in schools working with teacher teams to build their capacity to improve teaching and learning.
She is a co-founder of the Learning/Teaching Collaborative, one of the first Professional Development Schools in the country to link colleges and public schools in partnerships for preservice education of teachers.
Vivian is the co-author of The Power of Teacher Teams; with Cases, Analyses and Strategies for Success (Corwin Press, 2011); co-author of Making Science Mentors: A 10 Session Guide for Middle Grades (NSTA Press, 2008) and Who’s Teaching Your Children? Why the Teacher Crisis is Worse Than You Think and What Can be Done About it (Yale University Press, 2003); She is a contributor to several books and the author of numerous journal articles, papers, and professional publications.
